The non-retail Friends & Family version of Tiffany & Co. and Nike's 2023 Air Force 1 1837, reversing the public release through a Tiffany Blue leather upper and black detailing.

IN BRIEF
The non-retail Friends & Family version of Tiffany & Co. and Nike’s 2023 Air Force 1 1837, reversing the public black-suede release through a predominantly Tiffany Blue leather upper. Complete with the collaboration’s sterling-silver heel treatment, the pair occupied a separate collecting tier from the commercially available shoe. Disndat acquired an example directly through Nike around launch and placed it with a private buyer shortly afterwards.
ARCHIVE NOTE
The Nike Air Force 1 / Tiffany & Co. 1837 Friends & Family was produced in 2023 alongside the first official footwear collaboration between the New York jeweller and Nike. Unlike the black suede Air Force 1 1837 released commercially, the Friends & Family version reverses the composition: Tiffany Blue leather forms the majority of the upper, contrasted by black detailing and a white midsole above a Tiffany Blue outsole. The pair was never offered as a public retail release.
The underlying Air Force 1 was designed by Bruce Kilgore and introduced by Nike in 1982 as a basketball shoe before becoming one of the company's defining street silhouettes. For the 2023 collaboration, Nike framed the model through its particularly strong relationship with New York, describing the city as the place where the Air Force 1 moved between basketball and street style. Nike selected retailers connected with the model's history for the public launch.
Tiffany's contribution extended beyond colour. The collaboration was named 1837, after the year the house was founded, and each shoe incorporated a co-branded laser-etched sterling-silver plate at the heel. Tiffany has worked in sterling silver since the nineteenth century and established the American sterling standard of 925 parts silver per thousand. Its proprietary Tiffany Blue was later standardised with Pantone as 1837 Blue, again referencing the house's founding year.
The commercially released Air Force 1 1837 used a predominantly black premium suede upper with a Tiffany Blue leather Swoosh, black sole unit, rope laces and sterling-silver heel plates. It launched on 7 March 2023 for US$400, through Nike SNKRS, Tiffany's New York retail presence and selected North American retailers. Tiffany described the project as an “iconic union between two legendary American brands.”
The Friends & Family pair takes almost the opposite approach. The black nubuck of the public release gives way to bright Tiffany Blue grained leather, while the Swoosh, eyestay, tongue and heel are rendered in black. The sterling-silver heel treatment remains. Publicly documented examples carry style code DZ1382-900, compared with DZ1382-001 for the commercial black pair. Surviving examples are also documented with Tiffany Blue, white and yellow alternate laces and a specially inverted orange Nike box with Tiffany detailing, rather than the Tiffany Blue box used for the retail release.
The colour choice also carries an unavoidable sneaker-history association. In 2005, Diamond Supply Co.'s Nike SB Dunk Low became universally nicknamed the “Tiffany” Dunk because of its turquoise, black and silver palette, despite Tiffany & Co. having no involvement in that project. Nicky Diamonds later recalled deliberately drawing on the jeweller's colour language to make the Dunk appear unusually luxurious. The 2023 Air Force 1 therefore represented something different: Tiffany itself formally entering a visual territory that sneaker culture had already associated with the house for almost two decades.
That history makes the Friends & Family version particularly interesting. Whereas the public shoe confines Tiffany Blue largely to the Swoosh, the private version turns the house's most recognisable visual asset into the dominant surface of the sneaker. The relationship between the two pairs is therefore almost inverted: the commercial release foregrounds the Air Force 1 through black, while the Friends & Family version reads immediately as Tiffany before it reads as Nike.
No authoritative production quantity for the Friends & Family version has been identified. Nike and Tiffany confirmed that the colourway would not release publicly, and later auction and secondary-market records establish that examples entered private collecting channels, but they do not establish how many were produced or distributed. The Archive therefore records it as a Friends & Family edition without assigning an edition size.
The example documented here was acquired by Disndat directly through Nike around the time of the collaboration's launch. Recognising the immediate collector demand surrounding the non-retail colourway, Disndat subsequently placed the pair with a private buyer shortly after release. The transaction was completed privately and no public sale price is recorded by the Archive.
For Disndat, the object was particularly revealing because its desirability depended on more than simple scarcity. The publicly available shoe was itself a high-profile luxury collaboration, yet the inaccessible version used the visual language most immediately associated with Tiffany. The distinction illustrates how access, colour, distribution and context can substantially alter the collecting status of two objects built around the same collaboration.
