A made-to-order Louis Vuitton Keepall translating Virgil Abloh's flower-covered Spring–Summer 2020 runway concept into more than forty hours of embroidery and handmade silk flowers.

IN BRIEF
A made-to-order Louis Vuitton Keepall translating Virgil Abloh’s flower-covered Spring–Summer 2020 runway concept into 43 handmade silk flowers, more than 200 embroidered branches and over forty hours of handwork. Acquired directly from Louis Vuitton by a dedicated Keepall collector, this example was later brought to market with Disndat’s involvement, offered through Sotheby’s Geneva and subsequently sold privately.
ARCHIVE NOTE
The Keepall 50 Flowers was created for Virgil Abloh's Spring–Summer 2020 menswear collection at Louis Vuitton. Presented at Place Dauphine in Paris in June 2019, the collection used flowers throughout its clothing, accessories and staging. Abloh described wild flowers in the accompanying show notes as a naturally occurring metaphor for diversity, placing them within a broader collection concerned with childhood, familiarity, craft and his continuing attempt to broaden the language of luxury.
The bag subsequently released as the Keepall 50 Flowers was not simply the runway prop placed into production. Contemporary reporting records that fresh flowers had been used on a bag specially produced for the show. The made-to-order version recreated that effect through Louis Vuitton's ateliers using 43 silk flowers and more than 200 hand-embroidered branches. More than forty hours of manual work were required to complete each example. The result transformed the familiar 50-centimetre Keepall into an object closer in execution to couture embroidery than conventional travel luggage.
That translation is central to the object's significance. Abloh was increasingly interested in what Louis Vuitton's specialist ateliers could do with ideas originating outside traditional luxury codes. Reviewing the collection at the time, Vogue described him as taking an increasingly couture-like approach, while Abloh himself pointed to the skilled sewing atelier available to him at the house. Here, an intentionally simple runway gesture, a travel bag apparently overtaken by wild flowers, was reconstructed as a durable luxury object through extensive handwork.
The Keepall 50 Flowers was offered on a made-to-order basis rather than as a conventional widely distributed seasonal bag. Contemporary coverage of Louis Vuitton's Spring–Summer 2020 installation at Selfridges specifically identified it as a made-to-order piece, fully embroidered and finished with individually handmade flowers. No reliable public production total has been identified, and Disndat does not assign one. Likewise, no sufficiently authoritative contemporary record of its original retail price has been located to justify publishing a figure.
The example documented here came from a private collector with a substantial focus on Louis Vuitton Keepalls, who had the opportunity to acquire two Keepall 50 Flowers examples directly from Louis Vuitton. This example remained unused, retaining its original packaging and dust bag. When it later came to market, Sotheby's catalogued the bag with its shoulder strap, lock and two keys and recorded dimensions of approximately 50 × 28 × 23 cm. It was offered as Lot 1324 in the Geneva Handbags and Accessories sale on 9 November 2023 with an estimate of CHF 20,000–30,000. It did not transact during the public auction and was subsequently sold privately.
For collectors, the Keepall 50 Flowers occupies an unusual position within Abloh's Louis Vuitton work. Its importance does not depend on asserting an undocumented production number or claiming that an individual example appeared on the runway. Instead, it lies in the combination of a recognised Louis Vuitton travel form, one of the clearest motifs from Abloh's Spring–Summer 2020 collection and an unusually labour-intensive made-to-order execution. It is both a functional Keepall and a surviving production interpretation of a deliberately ephemeral runway idea.
The collector approached Disndat to determine the most appropriate route to market. Disndat assessed multiple auction-house and private-sale options before the example was consigned to Sotheby's Geneva. Following the auction, the bag was sold privately. The project reflects a different part of Disndat's work around significant objects: understanding what an object is, where it sits within its collecting category and which market or institution is best placed to handle it.
